Origins: the Story of the Emergence of Humans and Humanity in Africa

1 min read

Visitors to Johannesburg can visit, in the grounds of the University of Witwatersrand, the outstanding Origins Centre. In this book the Centre’s Curator, Geoff Blundell, draws together 19 fascinating contributions that deal with our emergence and development in Africa over a seven million year period. What the Origins Centre achieves through video, artefacts and sound, this book achieves in text and image in telling the story of the evolution of humanity in an accessible but not ‘dumbed-down’ manner. The latest research at key sites like Blombos Cave is included and presented by the experts themselves, such as the excavator of Blombos, Chris Henshilwood. A compulsive read for anyone interested in what makes us human and how this developed.
